TSO/ISPF

OVERVIEW

This course covers ISPF and provides an introduction to using TSO, MVS and SDSF.  Students will learn the major functions of these tools in an MVS environment; such as browse, edit, and features available in the library function. They will also learn several valuable shortcuts, which will help make them more productive on the job. 

DURATION: 2 days 

OBJECTIVES

  • Become familiar with the options available on the ISPF Primary Menu and the action bar
  • Set the most useful options using the ISPF Settings function
  • Understand the concepts of a partitioned dataset (PDS) and how to manage a PDS
  • Create, edit, browse, copy, delete, rename, print and compress datasets and/or PDS members.
  • Use numerous shortcuts to navigate around the TSO environment quickly.
  • Use HELP to resolve error messages and to access the online tutorial.
  • Enter JCL, submit and monitor batch jobs, and display and redirect output.
  • Use TSO/ISPF utility functions to manage datasets: copy, create, delete, print, etc.

INTENDED AUDIENCE

his course is designed for anyone who will be extensively interacting with an IBM mainframe through TSO/ISPF.  This includes programmers/analysts, technical support staff, operators, production analysts, security staff, or technical business users, etc. 

PREREQUISITES

No previous knowledge is required.

FORMAT/MATERIALS

Lecture and hands-on computer exercises to reinforce the material.  Each participant will receive a manual containing extensive lecture notes and reference material, and an optional textbook is available.
