OR555 Oracle Data Guard

Overview

This Oracle Data Guard class is designed for the database administrator, systems administrator, or operations personnel that are responsible for data availability and disaster recovery in an Oracle environment. The student will develop proficiencies in both the physical and logical standby modes of Data Guard to protect critical database information.

Course Objectives

Business entities recognize the importance of keeping data available despite disaster. This is particularity true if the information is either time or privacy sensitive. Oracle Maximum Availability with Data Guard course provides the foundation for installing Oracle Data Guard, and concepts for customizing for a particular environment to maintain data integrity and availability.

After completing this class, a student will have acquired the competency to install and configure an Oracle Data Guard with physical standbys, logical standbys, or combination of both. The student will understand the concepts behind these two general configurations, including both the benefits and restrictions.

Oracle Maximum Availability with Data Guard training is designed for the Database Administrator, Systems Administrator, or Operations personnel that is responsible for data availability.  This class will cover not only the architecture and function of the logical and physical standby database, but their appropriate application.

Prerequisites

The student must be familiar with Oracle 9i or 10g database. Must have some familiarity with backup/disaster recovery procedures.

Lab Work

This course includes hands-on labs where the student can become familiar with the Data Guard in an Oracle database environment.

Labs include:

  • Creating a Data Guard failover system using Grid Control
  • Failing over Data Guard using Grid Control
  • Failing over Data Guard using the Data Guard Broker
  • Failing over Data Guard using sqlplus
  • Debugging and troubleshooting Data Guard
