OR460 Tips and Techniques

OVERVIEW

This class provides the latest features of TOAD necessary to view, extract, and manipulate data within the Oracle database. This workshop covers all of the features necessary to develop, manipulate, and debug PL/SQL code, develop & tune SQL statements, using Query Builder and ER tools, and discover useful features of TOAD and how to see the data relationships of the application data and how to view/save this data. 

This is a hands-on workshop.  Attendees will be able to learn by using TOAD in a test environment.  This workshop includes on-line tutorials of all the topics useful to enable the end user to be more successful when working with the Oracle database.  

DURATION: 1 DAYS

In addition to building Interactive Dashboards, you will learn to configure, maintain and customize the user interface using cascading style sheets, dashboard styles, and building reports based on Answers requests as well as Oracle BI subject areas using Oracle BI Publisher, and use Oracle BI for Microsoft Office to integrate Oracle BI data and views in Microsoft Office presentations and spreadsheets

OBJECTIVES

  • Installation/Migration/Connecting Topics

  • Working with SQL: (viewing/changing Data, creating reports, extracting Data, working with SQL, discovering all of the help available, creating SQL with minimal key strokes using templates & auto substitution)

  • Schema Browser Tips and Techniques (viewing/changing Data, creating reports, extracting Data, working with scripts, working with spreadsheets, etc)

  • Working with PL/SQL (develop, execute, and debug PL/SQL routines, work with templates to create procedures/functions/triggers)

  • Query Builder/ER Diagrammer/Master Detail Browser (viewing application data relationships/viewing related Data)

  • Tuning with TOAD including explain plans but more in areas of finding problem SQL using TOAD’s interface to wait events and TOAD’s session interface to SQL as well as using the Oracle Trace Facility (TOAD has a great TKPROF inteface!).

  • Using the new Fast Reports reporting tool

  • Miscellaneous topics include TOAD configuration and other topics not covered in the other areas such as using the TOAD session monitor, viewing useful data dictionary information, database compare/export/etc.  This course also covers various methods of creating DDL and data-oriented scripts.

INTENDED AUDIENCE

This course is designed for people who will be retrieving and analyzing data using Oracle Reporting and Dashboards using Oracle BI Enterprise Edition. This includes Business Intelligence Developer, Business Analysts, Technical Consultant, End Users and Application Developers.

PREREQUISITES

Persons taking this class should have a basic understand of relational databases and SQL.  Working knowledge of PL/SQL is preferred. These classes are offered by ONYX.

FORMAT/MATERIALS

Lecture and discussion followed by hands-on lab workshops for each major topic to reinforce the material.  Each participant will receive an extensive lecture guide with several examples and workshop solutions.
