Instructor Biographies

Ms. Kalin had her start in the computer industry 30 years ago, when she worked as a programmer at the Pentagon in Washington D.C. After moving to Minnesota, she worked at GELCO (currently GE Capital) as a programmer/analyst and systems analyst, where her duties included both designing and developing financial systems. At Honeywell, she designed a relational database to track retirement savings for Honeywell employees. At Analysts International Corporation (AIC), she provided consulting and training for their Case Tools.

Ms. Kalin has been an instructor at Hennepin Technical College, where she managed the computer careers training, which specialized in programmer training. Currently, Ms. Kalin is the principal owner of ONYX Software Development Training Company, which provides onsite training for medium to large companies, as well as public training in partnership with several other small business owners.

Her strengths are in analysis and design, relational databases (DB2, Oracle and SQL Server) and programming. Ms. Kalin has taught many corporate onsite courses targeted to mainframe developers transitioning into internet and client/server technologies. Ann has done several training projects in which a group of people new to the computer field is trained to become a programmer.

Ms. Kalin was born in California and raised in a military family, living throughout the United States. She currently lives in Minnesota with her husband of 38 years. Her two children also live in Minnesota. She has her Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from James Madison University in Virginia, and completed graduate level studies at the University of Maryland and University of Minnesota in Management Information Systems.
